Only seven plots - only seven endings?

I'm not going to identify the ending - but I want to put it on record that the denouement in Tony Black's 'Murder mile', which I finished reading yesterday, is near identical to the childhood secret shared by Luke Darbyshere and Baz Rose, which was hinted at in 'Not wanted on voyage' (and in place since October 2011) and forms one of the main strands for the as-yet-untitled follow-up, of which 50K words has already been written.

Not wanted on voyage - re-revised

Another version - a first third-round prototype - hopefully avoiding those generic,
one idea fits all images,but intimating a bit more what the book might be about.

(I haven't yet re-thought the blurb, and black is not right for the back page text, but the wood-grain title is an improvement, I think.)

Why I write

Earlier today I read Kerry's account 'Why do I write?'  much of which resonated with me (I never failed to enjoy her descriptions of life on a crab boat).

An hour or so later two to-be-proofed copies of 'Making good' arrived - extremely fast and efficient service - thank you Lulu!.   Thus far I have merely hugged them, skimmed the pages and tweaked the slightly mis-aligned cover.

I shall re-read, with pencil and paper to hand, in a few weeks when it's had time to fade from my memory so it comes fresh again.

So I've put them on the shelf where I can sit and glow gently about them ...


In the meantime, I am struggling - and I do mean struggling - to find ways and means of editing, re-writing, shuffling and making a good deal sharper, last year's NaNoWriMo novel.

Not wanted on voyage - in process of proofing.

Received my to-be-proofed copies last week, in good time to take one to a neighbour and the other to my daughter in Germany for their opinions on the story itself - does it work? make sense? entertain?   What words did I get wrong because the correct one could not, at the time, be retrieved from within my head? (I have already replaced 'status' with 'credibility' and changed 'ears' to 'instinct' and 'rejuvenation' to 'restoration').   Also  swapped sisters for brothers for continuity's sake in the next novel!
I've now been through it twice and made dozens of corrections (mostly minor, but the quantity is embarrassing) and re-written a couple of bits.   Yesterday I uploaded the 'one-piece cover' for the corrected edition.   Fingers now crossed to get it done for early July.   AND to work out how to make it available as an e-book.

Day 14 NaNo - 37266

Started the day with a determined effort to fill in one of the less interesting days, a day when I need to establish minor relationships without resorting to 'and then' too many times.    After 1500 words I'd got to nine o'clock in the morning, with nothing happening.   Probably OK in the finished novel but no good for a finish in ~16 days ....
