Labouring, strong-armed, at a saw-horse in the orchard and singing snatches of ‘Sloop John B’. Blue shirt, blue eyes, blue sky beyond September-edged leaves. Smiled, took pity on me (gazing in wordless, gormless, disbelieving, adoration). Warm lips tip of tongue taste of heaven.
