New Orleans, Labour weekend, Southern Decadence, Saints versus Vikings in the opening match of the season ... and the fifth anniversary of Katrina.
All this plus the first meeting of eight writers, known only to each other through their writing on a well-known social site: a journalist, a couple of teachers and a travel agent, three from the wider world of commerce and a couple of stay-at-homes. From Alabama to Texas, from Germany, Mexico and Great Britain for a long weekend, armed with pen and paper and fuelled by enthusiasm and a selection of whiskies.
THIS TRUE STORY is the never-before-told account of that momentous weekend from which none returned home unchanged. Unexpurgated account written by Someone Who Was There [120 words]
Week #12’s response to Lisa Ricard Claro’s Book Blurb Friday challenge which this week uses one of my photos, taken in New Orleans last September.
Each week Lisa posts a photograph which represents a book cover. Participants are challenged to “Write a book jacket blurb (150 words or less) so enticing that potential readers would feel compelled to buy the book” The number of ought-to-be but not-yet-written books, sadly, increases weekly.

much nicer picture with the cropping!
ReplyDeleteGotta love that word "unexpurgated". Conjures up visions of hordes of villains who had wanted to expurgate the story but were defeated in the name of truth!
ReplyDeleteWritten by Someone Who Was There. Fabulous!

For some reason that gives me the shivers. I'm convinced the author is the only one left alive.......
ReplyDeleteExcept that there were two journalists, and except for the fact that the author was in her cups a good deal of the time, and except for the fact that she was also sleep-deprived, the above appears to be True.
ReplyDeletewell done!
ReplyDeleteI'm so enjoying this meme. Hope to see your work again, next week.
Thanks for visiting.

I bet this would be a hoot!
ReplyDeleteOhhh, "none returned home unchanged." Sounds like many articles, journals and books would be coming out of this weekend...but what would be revealed? Something good I hope? Good story!

This makes me wish I could join too! Great idea.(Unexpurgated-nice word!!!)
ReplyDeleteWriters fighting sleep in a city that never sleeps ... Damn, S ... I'm trying NOT to think we made a mistake in not returning there. Except for the practically guaranteed, wonderful fellowship that awaits us in NC, I can't imagine it spawning the same creativity. Nevertheless, I look forward to sharing space with you again, and I positively ADORE this photo!
ReplyDeleteEight writers together for a weekend (with the whiskies added) sounds like a lot of interesting goings on. This sounds like a wonderful character driven story, and I'd love to read it. I wish a group of us blog pals could meet like that sometime. Oh, the fun we'd have!
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your comments;
ReplyDeleteMorningAJ: rest assured, at least three have commented here ... and most of us are going back for more in July
Gita: I was aiming to preserve SOME anonymity
Mike: Got to move on - and at least TWO spaces next time.
Jean: Yes indeed, there was a book - 'House of the Rising Sun'
Lisa: Came true for some of us - AND we're doing it again.
Well done, I shall rust out and buy the book if it was in print :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! it gives yiu an idea on how to write one for your own work.
This would be a fascinating read. I don't get a sense of horror, more a feeling that all have been empowered in some way and will change their lifestyles.
ReplyDeleteoooo I love this - I'd pre-order this one!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun time and I'd want to read more! Nice picture by the way - and I also love how you put the title in there!
ReplyDeleteOMG! This book must be written. That cover and that blurb do not deserve to disappear unnoticed. Speaking (also as One Who Was There), Sandra Davies has nailed the situation.
ReplyDeleteThis would so complement Mike Handley's collection (also from Those Who Were There) amusingly titled HoWs of the Rising Sun. If this kind of thing continues, well all I can do is advise, "Move over spirits of the Algonquin Round Table. You've got competition!"
Well this sure is an irresistible plot to a fellow blog-writer! Love this interpretation of the picture. Now I'm seeing all sorts of symbolism in it.
ReplyDeleteI was just now searching for about this when I discovered your post. I’m just stopping by to say that I really enjoyed reading this post, it’s very well written. Are you planning to write more on this? It seems like there is more depth here for more posts.
