If it takes ten men with teaspoons to dig a hole ...

... how long would it take them with tablespoons?

This is the sort of question that had me screaming "use a bloody digger!!" when faced with it in a maths lesson, which explains why I had two goes to pass my 'O' level,
But seemingly, after half a century, someone has listened to me (probably NOT true, but ...) because an article in this week's Spectator by Timothy Gowers, seems to imply that it makes a lot more sense, and is ultimately more useful, to ask relevant maths questions (such as 'Should Alice marry Bob?') which also require logic, deduction and some thought given to variables and possibilities.
Fascinating.
There is a website, which I haven't read, but those of a more mathematical bent might enjoy.
And no doubt there are the stick-in-the muds (like my dearly beloved spouse) who STILL say "what about the equation?"
