Best laid plans ...

I have today successfully uploaded my NaNoWriMo2011 novel, after help from Blurb to overcome a hiccup and then solving further problems because I don't know how to create transparent jpgs so at the last minute changed to what had been plan A for the cover.

BUT on hitting 'order now' I found the price of the book was being stated at £32.95 and not the £9.95 quoted on the beginning page.   Another hiccup no doubt but minorly frustrating - vanity certainly doesn't stretch THAT far!

  1. I found that Blurb was quite expensive if you have too many pages. There has to be a cheaper way to do this. Have you considered doing it electronically?

(I never did tell you about the fiasco we went through to get delivery of the one I bought, did I? Remind me to email you some time.....)

  2. I don't know that Blurb is so much more expensive than any other, and certainly does not dictate/control price like Create Space which also requires UK citizens to fill in some sort of tax form. The hiccup here is with (I think) the programme I am using, possibly still in development, but worth trying for me because I wanted indented paragraphs for the text (which their BookSmart program does not allow) and did not have Adobe Design (which was required for their Pdf upload). This will cost £9.95 for a 6" x 9" book of ~380 pages, plus P&P which I think is £4.99, possibly for up to three books.
No to electronic at the moment: a) I want the book to proofread as much as anything, don't have a Kindle and anyway at the momend Blurb does not do electronic. That, and the Amazon link, was why I looked at Create Space but I would be required to sell it for a sum way above what was reasonable ...
As I said before, vanity comes at a price!
