The black-clad, barely-legal-age Goth behind the bar, metal-festooned face a practice climbing wall for caterpillars, raised her be-ringed eyebrows, blandly enquiring.
"Is it the banning of eructation, expectoration and all and sundry evacuations you are objecting to, or were you intending to admire my chirography?"
For the merest fraction of a second his eyes rested on the startling contrast of her pale cleavage before rising again to examine the sturdiness of her shoulders, her washer-woman forearms, the knuckleduster-size silver rings on several of her fingers and the intelligence in her mascara-spikey eyes, as she placed a beermat, the same calligraphic message repeated thereon, on the polished surface of the bar and proceeded to pull the pint of Belhaven he had, with the barest of nods, requested.
He smiled as he handed over a tenner.
