Day 17 NaNo - 46080
Different again to yesterday. Flailing a bit to find a direction, while I edit yesterday's work - the only way I can prepare to continue, despite knowing it is not recommended, and then when the idea for the next murder came to me, head down and working for the rest of the afternoon. I had been trying to shoehorn another murder in, but it was not working and knowing something had to happen I had to concentrate hard.

Hi Sandra. I know exactly what you mean about wanting to edit a section so that you can continue with a clearer view of the territory. You've got a great total down. Maybe you can slow down a bit once you've reached 50,000? Keep going.
ReplyDeleteThanks Annie - this will have to grow a good bit yet - I'm aiming more to put just the bones down for now so as to 'finish' the story for NaNo, which is a somewhat alien way of working.
ReplyDeleteI've had a couple of days when I've been short on my target of 2000 words a day so I've 'told the story' then gone back to it the following day. By editing it 24 hours later I can add in bits where it's missing and embroider a few people that lack description and generally boost the word count (and improve the story) So I'm with you.
ReplyDeleteIt also means that I'm declaring yesterday's word count every day, rather than today's. Which is nice.
AJ - much of my wordcount is fictitious too because for 'relaxation' I find myself 'taking dictation' of a conversation without having a clue where it fits in ... these are generally not added, but sooner or later I am going to have to claim an improbably large day's total when they are finally made to fit.
ReplyDeleteThat's kind of how I managed to catch up about 3000 one day - because I forced various bits together and mangled them somewhat to make a plot out of them. And I invented a previously unheard-of cat to act as the story thread. She's called Cally. She's cute.... :)
