Averting the echo of history (Book Blurb Friday #21

Agatha Jane Merriman
12 July 1879 - 12 September 1899
Steadfast to the end
Although the self-possessed accusation in the face of the stone girl had startled her, it was the memorial inscription at her feet which terrified because she was Agatha Jane Merriman, her birthdate identical but for a century - and today was the first day of September 1999
Impelled by urgent and insistent premonition, acutely aware that only with knowledge of past events could she prevent her own death in less than a fortnight, Agatha visits the local Record Office, where the very mention of her name sets in motion a treacherous and increasingly smoke-screened hunt for evidence and information.  Coincidences abound and history threatens to repeat itself on many levels, even down to the man from the past with the same name as Agatha’s would-be fiancĂ©.  Can the echo be averted or is her premature death inevitable?  [150 words]

Week #21’s response to Lisa Ricard Claro’s Book Blurb Friday challenge and Sioux Roslawski’s fascinating photograph,    Each week Lisa posts a photograph which represents a book cover.   Participants are challenged to “Write a book jacket blurb (150 words or less) so enticing that potential readers would feel compelled to buy the book”

  1. Sandra this is wonderful and definitely would be a page turner! I decided the statue itself looked like my character and went with it...

Hope you get some sleep :)

  2. I would certainly buy this book. The references to genealogy give it a technical twist which I find enticing!

  4. This has just the right amount of creepiness factor to make it overwhelmingly compelling! And those 12 days that Agatha II has to prevent the echo has built-in suspense. This has so many possibilities. Love it!

Also, did you know you have the book cover posted 3 times? (Love your headstone-carved font, by the way!) I've done it myself since I can't always see pictures, and I always hope someone would tell me. You were the one who solved that mystery for me by telling me Firefox can do that, and I really appreciate it!

  5. Oh, WOW!!! What a great story. Please write it so we can see how she rescues herself from the same tragedy of her namesake. I can't wait to find out all the details of the coincidences and how the original Agatha perished. You certainly have my interest.

  6. Great story idea and the twelve day timeline adds a real sense of urgency to the story. This would be a hard book to put down.

  7. Tammy - thank you for that - three perfectly visible in Internet Explorer but not in Firefox, where first two attempts to upload apparently failed!!

And thank you all for your comments - this was a fabulous picture to work with.

  8. Excellent, as always. This is a nice twisty mystery with undercurrents of the paranormal. Sounds like a good read; probably one I'll need to read during the daylight hours.

  13. Sandra--I adore the idea of an "echo" from the past. The storyline is very compelling. I would read it, and be on the edge of my seat until I found out if she WAS able to avert the echo of history.

(Thanks for the compliment about the photo, but it was such a great sculpture in the cemetery, it was easy to take a good photo. You know how it is...When the subject pulls us in, the photo of that subject will pull us in as well.)
