They had all just reached their teens.
All knew enough to know it was wrong.
All had been too eager for experience to say “no”
All survived and never ever told the tale.
Twenty years was surely long enough
to deny it ever happened
to have learnt to cope,
to forget.
Wasn’t it?
One had died, three had achieved near-anonymity and of the others,
Marianne masqueraded as respectable wife of high-ranking Cabinet minister
Nige gained fame as Noel: his outstanding acting ability had been evident then.
Luke had placed himself so as to be sure to hear of any repercussions,
recently promoted to detective chief inspector in the local CID
They would all be there for the reunion.
None would dare to miss it:
because David (always-known-as-Diabolical)
had mentioned in the invitation,
that he’d kept a diary at the time
and was about to publish
his account.
Unless
This is week #15’s response to Lisa Ricard Claro’s Book Blurb Friday challenge and the mesmerising photograph taken by Joseph J. Claro.
Each week Lisa posts a photograph which represents a book cover. Participants are challenged to “Write a book jacket blurb (150 words or less) so enticing that potential readers would feel compelled to buy the book” The number of ought-to-be but not-yet-written books, sadly, increases weekly.
This is dark and sinister. I love it! It's a great teaser for the book. There's backstory to discover and I'll be on tenderhooks waiting for the outcome.
ReplyDeleteSandra, you've outdone yourself. This is too enticing to miss. Great take on the photo and a blurb that pulls me in straightaway. I love the dark feeling of secrets and impending trouble.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got your name in Mr. Linky. I don't know what Google is up to these days, but they've sure messed with Blogger, haven't they?
Unless? Unless? Oh lordy, what a tease. That is what a blurb should be in my opinion. And you've got me hooked!! Where do I sign up for the 1st issue off the presses?
ReplyDeleteHere is my Blurb
Have a great weekend.
What a set up for wondering what happened! No clue really exactly what it was...a reader has to read to learn the whole story! Bet it is interesting to see all those characters and how they fit in. Good job.
ReplyDeleteOoh, intrigue and blackmail - wonderful:-)
ReplyDeleteWow, Sandra! I can't imagine what they did 20 years ago and what will happen at the reunion. I'm sure somebody will want to do in Diabolical before he publishes his book though. I really want to find out what happens.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried to unclick the box that says "stay signed in on this account"? Some are saying that when they uncheck the box then they can leave comments again. Best of luck, and have a wonderful weekend,
Kathy M.
Yes, my very-distant relative, you've done it again. This is a blurb that will sell books as fast as the stores can get them in. Very interesting having the lines centered, too. Great technique.

It seems that twenty years wasn't long enough and I'm dying to know why. This would be a hard book to put down.
ReplyDeleteMy Blurb: The Simple Truth
Ooh...I love the sense of fear and uncertainty that quivers through this piece! The tense taste you've given us of this tale, makes it clear there is much more to follow...spooky!!
ReplyDeleteUh oh, David. Haven't you been watching the news? Don't you know this will not end well?
ReplyDeleteSandra the plot of this is fantastic-what a story this would make! I wanted to keep reading...
ReplyDeleteWow, you just lured me right in with this one! There is so much I want to know! And P.S.-Thank you so much for that tip about Firefox making pictures disappear! You were absolutely right. Wonderful to have that mystery solved at last!!!
