Rose Madigan needed a ‘husband’ for a couple of weeks and Baz Rose - spectacularly ugly, sometime-rival, occasionally fellow-journalist - was the only suitable candidate.
“It’s a ‘luxury honeymoon cruise’ with a higher-than-average number of grooms returning as widowers” she told him, as inducement.
An insurance scam, obviously, but the death rate rose only when the guest lecturer on Archaeology, the French chef in the Paradise restaurant and the Canadian croupier were simultaneously on board. And when the liner called at Lerwick.
Additionally, on this trip, among the preponderance of mis-matches, high-powered grooms and pale-complexioned baby brides, was Eric McGarry, already the subject of a covert investigation for art smuggling, and making his third appearance as a groom.
Baz – who was also, curiously, the sexiest journalist Rose had ever known - had only one question: “Will you then be known as Rose Rose?”
“No” she’d told him “Madigan Rose.”

Week #16’s response to Lisa Ricard Claro’s Book Blurb Friday challenge and the tantalising photograph provided this week by Sioux Roslawski.
Each week Lisa posts a photograph which represents a book cover. Participants are challenged to “Write a book jacket blurb (150 words or less) so enticing that potential readers would feel compelled to buy the book”
As an exercise in stacking up potential plots it cannot be beaten – combine any six and it’s a certain NaNoWriMo (at least that’s what I’m telling myself!)

Sandra - This is exactly something I would read, and now I'm destined for disappointment because it doesn't exist. Maybe you could, you know, just write a little bit of this story. Throw us a bone, maybe? This looks like an excellent read. *sigh* You torture me with your blurb!
ReplyDeleteActually Lisa, this one is torturing me too - I've already opened a NaNo file with a few notes based on it - AND brought Luke D into the story too ... see how it goes in November maybe. Your encouragement is very much appreciated, thanks.
ReplyDelete"the death rate rose only when the guest lecturer on Archaeology, the French chef in the Paradise restaurant and the Canadian croupier were simultaneously on board"
ReplyDeleteThe mind boggles!
Sandra--I agree with Lisa. You need to make sure you don't just discard this plot idea. The characters, the setting...This story needs to be written. I think making notes and saving it for NaNoWriMo is an excellent one. (And isn't that your photo that will featured next week? It's a spectacular one!)
ReplyDeleteWell done....I must follow, hoping you'll continue this work of intrigue, as you say......in November.
ReplyDeleteIntriguing...write on.
ReplyDeleteI just knew the ugly journalist was going to be very attractive! Romance is in the air for Rose while he and she are investigating the nefarious goings-on.
ReplyDeleteMy kind of book, too. I'd love to see what you can do with it. Write on!
ReplyDelete(Meanwhile, gotta watch out for Canadian croupiers.)

This is more than just an interesting condept, although personally I would have had a bunch of widows instead of widowers...I'm thinking that these helpless women just couldn't save their husbands... LOL! How different we are all this week and how much more fun!
ReplyDeleteA rose by any other name would still be investigating mysteries apparently. This newest adventure holds a lot of promise and tantalizing questions. I'd take a sip for sure.
ReplyDeleteMy Blurb: Safe Conclusions
interesting in seeing how the book cover fits into the plot!
ReplyDeleteTidbits and tension are everywhere, and all of it tantalizing as can be. I'm with everyone else. Please please please write this! And it doesn't have to be November for NaNo. I'm just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteThank you all - it's funny how characters get into one's head isn't it? Rose was from here via 'Seeing Double' BBF#9, and Luke Darbyshere and Baz from Thinking Ten posts. Now they're talking to each other (fighting even) AND have a connection via last week's BBF!
ReplyDeleteI've almost writing finished my latest Bridie & Sean story,111K words, which will need editing, so it likely will be November before writing begins on this - and I don't have a CLUE about how to plot this lot at all!
