Smile now darling, just for me - Book Blurb Friday

Smile now darling ... and try and stop those teeth chattering!   Lovely, darling!   Just one more!”

Poor bitch, whoever thought modelling was glamorous should see her now:  they’d had to use a hairdryer on her goose-pimples, and god knows he was cold enough, fully-clothed, so having to stand around in a succession of bikinis in this draughty, unheated, centuries-old stone manor house on the bitter edge of the Pennines didn’t bear thinking of.

'Fay' she’d said her name was, just starting out on her career, and photographer Davey Cartwright was starting to wonder whether whoever had scheduled this photo-shoot - for swim-wear, in November! - was malicious or mad.    Given the catalogue of disasters that had befallen them since they arrived, he was prepared to believe it was both.

And the expression on her face, as she looked beyond him, indicated that things were about to get worse ...     [147]

This is my week #5 response to Lisa Ricard Claro’s Book Blurb Friday challenge.   Each week Lisa posts a photograph which represents a book cover.   Participants are challenged to “Write a book jacket blurb (150 words or less) so enticing that potential readers would feel compelled to buy the book”    Reading the varied responses is highly entertaining.- and next week is one of my all time favourite photographs – I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with as it’s been challenging me for years to do it justice

  1. Okay. You have to write this book! Please write this book! Brilliant back cover blurb that would have me reaching for the bookshelf.

  3. Love this! Very creative, and believable, too, considering what the fashion industry puts these models through. It's a wonder they aren't all bonkers. Great blurb. (Were you finally able to see your photo?)

  4. Ellie - there is more of a possibility that this one WILL get written, eventually
Margo - only in water- & wind-proof gear
Lisa - thanks, and no I didn't get to see the photo, a very occasional glitch, totally inexplicable, just as well it IS mine!

  5. Modelling isn't all glamour! I hope Fay and Davey manage to work through the undoubted trials and tribulations coming their way.

  8. I can't think why I chose a model - I know absolutely nothing about the world thereof - but I could have fun trying I suppose - thank you for your comments.

  9. Glamour, mystery and scope for some horror - Time to get writing - I'd read it.

  10. Oh, my gosh, Sandra! These are the kinds that I go for everytime ... like Harlan Coben's books. I want to know what happens next.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!

  15. I've often thought modeling would be one of the worst careers...except for the money, of course.

I'd love to see what happens to poor Fay next!

Like maybe bungee jumping in a see-through mini and heels?

  17. I am dying to know what Fay saw. (I took a more lighthearted approach this week.) And I'm looking forward to writing about your photo next week!

  18. Thank you all - if it goes anywhere it'll have to finish romantic ... eventually, because I don't know - don't think I know - how to do anything else. Might be fun trying though. I'm thinking perhaps a sort of modern day Wuthering Heights, having re-read that recently

  20. Sandra, I only got to checking out your BBF today so I got to read all those wonderful poems along the way down the page. I love the poems but it was a bit of a shock getting here - the pace, style, genre.. all so different. I'm so impressed with your creativity and versatility!
