five couples.
all who’d heard
of the other four
and knew by name.
All trying to remember
what they’d heard
and which particular
traits and foibles
appertained to each.
Us the latest on the scene.
(colleagues since 1989),
others neighbours,
or met when children born,
and earlier ones since Uni.
And I could see
that some of these
could be friends with me
but others – no,
not ever!
Do you make instant judgements about people? I sort of know straight away whether someone is likely to become a friend. And I'm pretty certain when they won't. Could be self-fulfilling of course.
ReplyDeleteMorningAJ - I used to make instant judgements but found too often that those I liked straight away turned out to have no depth, but those I wasn't sure about were MUCH more worthwhile. Those I dislike on sight usually stay disliked!
